New Demo

vaporware - /vay'pr-weir/ Software that is announced long before it is ready for sale, and that sometimes never materializes. The term came from Atari users and was later applied by Infoworld to Microsoft's continuous lying about Microsoft Windows' release date.

If I had to come up with a band name for my solo stuff, "vaporware" would probably be the most suiting. I've gotten a bad reputation for starting things and then never, or at least rarely, finishing on time. That doesn't just go for music, but for pretty much everything. However, I broke the viscious cycle and somehow managed to sustain my concentration and interest long enough to write a new song / record a demo of it. There aren't any vocals or drums yet (Steve or Rob, would you please record a drum track for me?) but I'm still extremely happy with the result. Please give it a listen and tell me what you think. Oh, and it doesn't have a name, since it doesn't have any lyrics yet.

Very nice. I like it very much. Just to satisfy my curiosity, which parts are synth and which parts are actual instruments. I can't decide if the bass guitar is a synth/midi? It sounds like at least one of the guitars are synth.

Then again... they could all be real instruments and I'm just not used to stuff sounding that clean... but the guitar that comes in at about 2:06 sounds like it came out of The Legend Of Zelda.

Overall, very nice, synth or not.
To borrow a line from mst:

I like it very much.

I don't have a good enough recording setup to be able to record stuff that sounds that clean, so yeah, it's all synths or samples. Some of the guitar strums were a pain though because I customized them so I had to do time stretch and stuff to get them to sound right. For the sake of full disclosure, here's what the instruments are: the bass is Boobass from Fruity Loops Studio 4 with IK Multimedia's "Amplitube" plugin insert, and that synth that comes in at 0:06 is Fruity Loops Buzz Generator set on preset "Rectal Anarchy" (yeah, i know...) with the Amplitube plugin to make it sound more like a guitar. The guitar samples are from Steinberg's Virtual Guitarist and Virtual Guitarist Electric Edition. I made the song in Fruity Loops, then exported each track to wave files, and then edited the levels in Cubase SX 2.0.

Though I plan on investing in a better mic and audio interface sometime in the next month or two, and maybe later a drum machine to learn drums on. And maybe a bass even later - but that's pretty far down the road. In the meantime I can try improving on the guitar and violin.

Wow... the acoustic rythmn guitar sounds really nice for synth. Thats a really nice program (which I'm sure cost you a lot... wink wink.)
